The EU-based PLANTOID Project is developing and prototyping new technology that would allow people to study and simulate the behavior of plants now as well. The researchers have stated that their greater interests in these projects comes from a desire to analyze different functions such as (for example) their adaptive growth. To date, the project has developed two different root-like robots.</p>
